As X’s new global head of marketing, Angela Zepeda is stepping in to help rehabilitate the social-media platform’s reputation. Repairing relationships with advertisers will be her biggest yet.
: Former Hyundai chief creative officer Angela Zepeda is the new head of marketing for X, formerly Twitter, CEO Linda Yaccarino shared on the platform on Monday.
X has not had a head of marketing since Leslie Berland left the role of CMO of Twitter in 2022, shortly after Elon Musk took over the company and fired about half of its staff.
In her announcement, Yaccarino said Zepeda is an “exceptional leader” who will “further shape our transformation,” and that she “brings incredible experience and expertise, understands how to grow a brand globally and is exactly the right person to lead X’s marketing as we accelerate our innovation.”
Zepeda was Hyundai’s CMO from 2019 until July 2024, when the automaker overhauled its marketing department, splitting it into creative and performance marketing divisions and eliminating the CMO role. She left the company less than a month after her title change to chief creative officer and Sean Gilpin was given her performance marketing duties.
After Zepeda left Hyundai, the company reversed its overhaul and made Gilpin CMO, overseeing both creative and performance marketing.
Zepeda announced her new role at X on LinkedIn. Neither she nor Yaccarino detailed her job responsibilities other than that she would be leading the marketing department.
