Angelina Jolie, known for her fierce roles in films like Tomb Raider and Salt, shared a different side of herself at the Venice Film Festival.

The 49-year-old Oscar-winning actress revealed that in real life, she is much softer than the tough characters she often portrays on screen

During a panel discussion at the festival, Jolie was asked how she relates to opera singer Maria Callas, whom she is portraying in the upcoming Netflix movie Maria.

Jolie explained that she connects with Callas through her softness.

“I think the way I related to her may be a surprise – probably the part of her that’s extremely soft,” Jolie declared.

“And she doesn’t have room in the world to be as soft as she truly was, and as emotionally open as she truly was.”

This remark hinted at the pressures of fame and how it has impacted Jolie’s ability to express her vulnerability. Her comments came after an emotional moment at the festival, where Jolie shed tears during an eight-minute standing ovation for the film.

The mother of six was visibly moved, wiping away tears as the applause for Maria continued. It was a touching moment that highlighted Jolie’s deep connection to the role and the emotional journey she has undergone in portraying Callas.
