WATCH: NFL takes advantage of little-known TV blackout rule with Philadelphia Eagles clash in Brazil during week one
Fridays are usually a no-go area for the NFL, with games played on a Sunday, Monday and Thursday.
The Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 prohibits NFL games on Friday nights and Saturdays, but only from the second week of September.
The Friday night game in question is on September 6th. As ever, the NFL studies TV rules very closely.
It will be an historic day when the Eagles take to the field against an as yet unnamed opponent at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo.It will not just be the first NFL regular season game in Brazil, but the first to be played on the continent of South America.
The NFL will be hoping for the word to be spread further, as there is already a significant bedrock of support for the sport in Brazil.
Although the game will be available on an over-the-air channel in the local markets of the teams involved, it will be streamed nationally on Peacock.
There has already been some strong criticism of this move, not least from Chris “Mad Dog” Russo.
